About Keith Hirshland
Keith Hirshland is an Emmy Award–winning sports television producer with more than three decades of experience producing live and pre-recorded programs that aired on ESPN and ESPN2. Among the first forty people to be hired by the Golf Channel in 1994, Hirshland was in the middle of the action when that network debuted in 1995. He provided his talents for Golf Channel, as its live tournament producer, for two decades. My Take: Whenever I dream about winning a million dollars all I have to do is learn about people who have won a lot of money and how they have lost it all by spending it all or being swindled. Randy Rush falls into the last category. He won but was taken advantage of by some con men. Like we all do we have to choose between revenge or trying to make good from the good we have been given. It sounds like he did a lot of good in the beginning. I am not
going to spoil what happens after his being conned but this book is a good look at the good and bad of sudden windfalls.

Daily Life of a Utilities Engineer at AFHQ in Europe During WWII; or, What to Say in Letters Home When You're Not Allowed to Write about the War Most people don’t realize that during the war in Europe in the 1940s, it took an average of six support soldiers to make the work of four combat soldiers possible. Most of what’s available in the literature tends toward combat narratives, and yet the support soldiers had complex and unique experiences as well. This book is based on personal correspondence, and it is primarily a memoir that creates a picture of the day-to-day realities of an individual soldier told in his own words [as much as he could tell under the wartime rules of censorship, that is] as well as giving insight into what it was actually like to be an American soldier during WWII. It explores the experiences of a non-combat Army utilities engineer working in a combat zone during the war in Europe and takes the protagonist from basic training through various overseas assignments—in this case to England, North Africa, and Italy as a support soldier under Eisenhower and his successors at Allied Force Headquarters. It also includes some reflections about his life after returning to Oregon when the war was over. The soldier involved is Captain Harold Alec Daniels [OSU, Class of 1939, ROTC] and most of the letters were written to his wife, Mary Daniels [attended U of O in the late 1930s]. Rebecca Daniels has been a university professor for many years who has also simultaneously had a vital creative career in the theatre. Throughout her career, her work has always been a mix of performance, teaching, and her own writing.
Her groundbreaking book on women directors and the effects of gender on their work is currently still in print [Women Stage Directors Speak: Exploring the Effects of Gender on Their Work, McFarland, 1996], and she has been published in several theatre-related professional journals over the years as well. After her retirement in the summer of 2015, she was finally able to focus all her energies on this book.

My Take: I like reading books about World War II and it being actually what really happened just makes it even better. This book not only deals with the war but also deals with support troops who don't get the recognition that they deserve because they were supporting the troops, quietly working in the background so the fighting troops can do what they do. A lot of what Alec Daniels did he couldn't speak about because classified so he wrote about his thoughts and feelings about what he was doing. This is a great look behind the curtain so to speak. I would recommend.

My take: This is a coming of age story during the 50's and 60's. The main character is Dave who has an alcoholic father who is in the army and a mother who is ill but we don't know with what. Being military the family moves quite frequently and we are along for the ride. Dave has brothers and sisters who are fighting with each other like a lot of siblings do. Dave struggles in school but loves to read. When he is drafted his father pulls some strings and has him stationed in Korea instead of Vietnam. The story is told with some humor and was enjoyable to read and I would recommend it to almost anyone.

My Take: This is a short story collection. I don't usually like short stories but this collection kept me interested and eager for the next story. I don't know if it was the subject matter but I am a sucker for stories about love, romance , relationships but not so much about divorce and all of these is what this collection is about. I enjoyed this collection very much and it makes me wonder why I don't read more short stories. I would venture to guess that almost everyone will be able to find a story in the collection. I liked them all.

My Take: This is the second book in this series but you can easily read it as a stand a lone. Miranda is a real estate agent in the Blue Ridge Mountains and she solved a mystery in the previous book so her cousin Skip has shown up wanting her help as he has had his cat has been catnapped
because of some claims Skip made on a late night radio show that he was doing for a friend. Miranda agrees to help get Skip's cat back but the deeper she gets into the case the more she finds out that all the claims are not just made up. This was a wild ride and kept me guessing from start to finish. I would recommend this book if you are life me and like your mysteries a bit on the cozy side.

Jamie Lisa Forbes was raised on a ranch along the Little Laramie River near Laramie, Wyoming. She attended the University of Colorado where she obtained degrees in English and philosophy. After fourteen months living in Israel, she returned to her family’s ranch where she lived for another fifteen years.
In 1994, she moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2001, she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law and began her North Carolina law practice.
Her first novel, Unbroken, won the WILLA Literary Award for Contemporary Fiction in 2011. Her collection of short stories, The Widow Smalls and Other Stories, won the High Plains Book Awards for a short story collection in 2015. Her law practice gave her the opportunity to travel many of the back roads of North Carolina and meet the unique and diverse individuals who inspired Eden.

My Take: I thought that the Author had a good grasp of what life was like during this time period. We are introduced to the characters at the beginning of the book when 10 year old Eden is called to testify against her uncle for the murder of her father. Rowen had skipped work for the morning to attend the trial. Rowen's father killed himself leaving the family destitute and not equipped to live as Rowen and his mother were use to being wealthy. Lucky for them their servant Adeline has decided to stay with them and help them muddle through. She is the voice of reason throughout the book. Eden gets kicked out of her house by her mother and shows up at Rowen's house asking for a place to stay. They take her in and she becomes one of the likable characters in this book.
I would recommend this book if your like to read about the deep south during the 50's and later. This was a pretty good book and I would give it a 4 stars out of 5.

She offers to sell the lantern back to Eve and Patrick, and they reluctantly agree, hoping to keep it out of unscrupulous hands.
Convinced that the lantern is a threat to their future happiness, Eve and Patrick decide to destroy it. d

My take: This is the third book in this time travel series. This book have them traveling back to 1884 and meeting up with Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Also Eve's best friend Joni joins her on her adventure. This book explores the times attitude toward women. I found myself on the edge of my seat and looking forward to what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this whole series.

About Kendall Price
Dr. Kendall Price was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland, the third of four children. He attended high school at the Phillips Academy Boarding School in Andover, MA, a place that left him with many fond memories, and that he calls the most formative time of his life. The friendships in 221 BC are loosely based on his time at Andover.
Following in the footsteps of his father and two grandfathers, all doctors, Kendall attended Amherst College in Amherst, MA and the University of Illinois College of Medicine and studied pathology at Stanford University. While there, he did four fellowships, including medical staff/ autopsy, hematopathology, surgical pathology, and immunohistochemistry.
Doctor Price lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife Michelle and their three children. It was Michelle’s influence, with her study of Chinese medicine, and a masters degree in Chinese acupuncture, that led Dr. Price to become certified in acupuncture himself. The magic in 221 BC is based on Chinese medicine.
In addition to writing and Chinese medicine, Dr. Price enjoys exercise, reading, and travel. He has been to all 48 continental US states, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, and Copenhagen.

About Laura Vosika
Laura Vosika is a writer, poet, and musician. Her time travel series, The Blue Bells Chronicles, set in modern and medieval Scotland, has garnered praise and comparisons to writers as diverse as Diana Gabaldon and Dostoevsky. Her poetry has been published in The Moccasin and The Martin Lake Journal 2017.
She has been featured in newspapers, on radio, and TV, has spoken for regional book events, and hosted the radio program Books and Brews. She currently teaches writing at Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
As a musician, Laura has performed as on trombone, flute, and harp, in orchestras, and big bands. She lives in Brooklyn Park with 5 of her 9 children, 3 cats, and an Irish Wolfhound.

Amazon Kindle Barnesandnoble Indiebound BookDepositoryMy Take: First I would like to apologize for this review being posted late. I put it down for the wrong date in my review calendar. This book was okay. I found it a bit hard to follow because of all the different names that were from ancient Egypt and there were alot of them. I usually like to read about ancient Egypt but I had a hard time because of the names. I did start to enjoy the story after I got use to it. This is the first book in the series so hopefully the next books will be easier to read because I will have gotten use to it. There is magic in this book for if you are opposed to that you have been warned. The story starts out with a murder so it is not boring because of lack of action. They think that the murder was because of magic. This story takes place when at a different time than when you normally think of Egypt during the time of Hannibal. I would recommend this book if you like action and have a bit of patience to get use to the names.

About Thomas W. Starbuck
Thomas W. Starbuck, an eternal optimist, finds joy in everything around him – from quality time with his active family to quiet meditation and contemplation about the world around him. Never living life in the status quo, Tom had an idea for a story.
This spark of an idea for a screenplay turned into Tom’s first novel, ‘Deadly Ground’, published in April 2018. Tom is the father of two daughters and a beloved granddaughter, who one of the Deadly Ground characters was named after. He lives with his wife of 45 years in Des Moines, Iowa, where he graduated from Drake University and worked in financial services for 32 years prior to retirement in 2009.

Multi-talented Judy Belshe-Toernblom has spent her career as an award-winning writer/producer/casting director in Hollywood. My Take: I really like dystopian stories and this is no exception. Ab is a scientist for the CDC and is on vacation when he gets word that there is a virus that is killing everyone that contracts it. He goes back to the CDC to try and make a vaccine for the virus but despite his and others hard work he ends up the only man on earth left alive because of his DNA. He does still have his dog with him so he does have some form of companionship but he soon wishes he had some human companionship. This is a short book so it doesn't take long to get through and it is full of the action and adventure. Highly recommend.
