Private Games by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan Audiobook Review
Private Games
- UNABRIDGED
- by James Patterson , Mark Sullivan
- Narrated by Paul Panting
- Series: Private, Book 3
From Audible.com:
On your mark...
Private, the world's most renowned investigation firm, has been commissioned to provide security for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Its agents are the smartest, fastest, and most technologically advanced in the world, and 400 of them have been transferred to London to protect more than 10,000 competitors, who represent more than 200 countries.
Get set...
The opening ceremony is hours away when Private investigator and single father of twins, Peter Knight, is called to the scene of a ruthless murder: a high-ranking member of the games' organizing committee has been killed. It's clear to Peter that this wasn't a crime of passion, but one of precise calculation and execution.
Die!
Newspaper reporter Karen Pope receives a letter from a person who calls himself Cronus, claiming responsibility. He promises to restore the Olympics to their ancient glory and to destroy all those who have corrupted the games with lies, corruption, and greed. Immediately, Karen hires Private to examine the letter, and she and Peter uncover a criminal genius who won't stop until he's completely destroyed the modern games.
"America's #1 storyteller" (Forbes) delivers an exhilarating, action-packed thriller that brings the splendor and emotion of the Olympics to a wildly powerful climax.
My Take: I must admit that I really enjoy James Patterson books, but the Private series is just not my favorite series of his, I think it is because in the first Private book I just didn't like the characters. I didn't really like the second book in the series either so I almost didn't try this one. I am really glad I did though. Peter Knight is a very likable character and I found myself truly caring about this character. I guess it's was because he was a single father whose wife died while giving birth to his twin children. His children play a major part in the story so I won't say much other than he has his hands full with them. This book was very current and up to date as it deals with the Olympic games. I even thought of this book when there was talk of the lack of security in the games this year. This book kept my interest and kept me wanting to listen more.
Audio: I thought that the Narrator Paul Panting did a good job with the narration. I would listen to another book by him. There were really nothing to distract from the story.

Lead Me Holy Spirit by Stornie Omartian Audio Book Review
Lead Me Holy Spirit by Stormie Omartian
Narrated by Renee Raudman
From Christianaudio.com
From bestselling author Stormie Omartian comes a brand-new look at one of God's most amazing gifts to those who believe in Him: the Holy Spirit.
Readers can walk in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in every area of life. With a sure hand, Stormie helps readers to see that the Holy Spirit wants those who know Him to hear His gentle leading when He speaks to their heart, soul, and spirit. He wants to help believers enter into the relationship with God they yearn for, the wholeness and freedom God has for them, and the fulfillment of God's promises to them. He wants to lead them.
As readers trust in the Holy Spirit and His great love for them, they will be filled with His mind, knowledge, wisdom, understand their special calling, and sense His guidance in the way they should go.
My Take:
I was offered this book from Christianaudio.com as a part of their audio book review program and I jumped at the chance as I have liked every book that I have read by Stormie Omartian since I read Power of a Praying Wife. I really feel that Mrs. Omartian truly believes what she writes and truly wants us all to lead a better life by the things that she has learned on her Christian journey. Although I don't agree with her theology about the Holy Spirit she doesn't bang you on the head with what she believes but gives you practical advice on how to have the Holy Spirits power in your life . The reason I gave this audio book a four out of five is because at the end of each section it is ended with a prayer and some scripture. It is very difficult in audio to go back to listen to the prayer again or to the Scripture again. Other than that I thought that this audio book was done very well and I will be looking for this narrator again. Some of the sections in the book were Led to Prayer, Led to Bear Good Fruit and Led to be Transformed with many other subjects covered as well. Excellent book. Highly recommend.

The Company by Chuck Graham Book Review
The Company by Chuck Graham
From the Litfuse:
About
the Book:
A meteor strike plunges the world into darkness. A stranger to the village
of Brigos Glen restores power and light, supplied by three businesses, known as
“The Company,” located beyond the forbidden mountains. The stranger reveals a
plan so the Brigons can maintain the power and share the light with outlying
territories, which remain shrouded in darkness.
Now, seventy years later, The Company summons six Brigons, including the
young engineer Sam Mitchell, to attend a conference in the mountains of the
forbidden Outlands.
Responsible for compiling a report about Brigos Glen from his five
companions, Sam learns how managers and villagers largely ignored the plan or
compromised it to self-interest, forsaking their duty to share the light. They
also took for granted The Company responsible for generating and transmitting
the power.
In an ordeal fraught with failure, revelations, and judgment, Sam discovers
the true identity behind The Company and learns the fate that may befall Brigos
Glen . . . that is, unless he can stop it.
About
Chuck:
Chuck Graham's legal career as an attorney in private practice spanned more
than thirty-one years. He represented many local, national, and international
clients, acquiring intricate knowledge about the often-overlapping structures of
the corporate world. He also worked against those seeking to create racial
division, including the Ku Klux Klan. He has served as a member of the state bar
of Georgia since 1979 and an instructor to attorneys and judges through the
Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE). He received the Medallion of
Appreciation from ICLE.
Chuck is also a speaker and the author of Take the Stand (Broadman
& Holman Publishers, 1996) and the compilations, A Year of
Encouragement (Xulon Press).
In 1997 he founded Ciloa (Christ Is Lord Of All), a ministry devoted to
sharing God’s encouragement with the world and teaching those who follow Him how
to encourage others. Today Chuck serves as executive director and principal
author of A Note of Encouragement, a weekly e-zine reaching 175 countries.
He and Beverly, his wife of thirty-four years, have lived in Lawrenceville,
a suburb of Atlanta, for fourteen years. God has blessed them with three
children. In his free time, Chuck enjoys backpacking and hiking (especially on
the Appalachian Trail), playing the guitar, dabbling in photography, and reading
extensively about the Christian faith.
My Take: It took me awhile to get into this book. It isn't a very big book but I had a very hard time getting past the first couple of pages. It wasn't until Sam came into the picture did the story for me start to pick up. If you are a Christian you will recongnize the allegory here about how God has given us a plan for free and some have strayed away from that plan. Although you could pretty much predict what was going to happen the author throws in some twists and turns along the way. i would recommend this book if you like allegories. If you find the first part slow going I would encourage to stick with it because it does pick up and it is worth the wait.

My Take: This is another audio book that I picked up through Audiofile's Summer Sync program. Click the link to find out about the books for this week and for the books in the future weeks. This book was one of the first weeks selections so it is no long available for free but I would suggest that you see if you can find from your library or maybe buy it.
I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see how different people reacted to what had happened to the world. As is always the the way some people tried to take advantage of the situation and some people took what ever they could from people. Some people like Stephen's grandfather became cynical and distrustful of everyone. Others, like most of the people of Settler's Landing, are willing to trust others. It was interesting to see the transformation of Stephen over the length of the book. He matured so much. I liked the progression of the other characters as well.
Audio: I really liked Dan Bittner's interpretation of this book. His characterization was really all that was needed as far as distinction between characters and his voices were not really that much different but you could tell by the tone of voice or inflection who was talking.
This is considered YA but I think adults would enjoy it too. I did.
Head over to Devourer of Books for a meme that highlights the audio books that others have finished this week. I have added to by Audible.com wish list every week since I started checking it out.

Coming Home is a novel about tremendous victory and unprecedented loss, a story of faith and a forever kind of love, love that will stay with you long after the last page.
