Invasion by Jon S. Lewis

Invasion The Invasion by Jon S. Lewis

From Goodreads.com:
He didn't ask for the job, but now all that stands between us and chaos... is Colt

Colt McAlister was having the summer of his life. He spent his days surfing and his nights playing guitar on the beach with friends. He even met a girl and got his first car. But everything changes when his parents are killed in a freak accident.

He's forced to leave his old life behind and move to Arizona with his grandfather. The only person he knows at the new high school is a childhood friend named Dani. And Oz, a guy he's sure he's never met but who is strangely familiar.

But what if his parents' death wasn't an accident? His mother, an investigative reporter, was going to expose a secret mind-control program run by one of the world's largest companies. Before she could release the story, what if agents from Trident Biotech made sure she couldn't go public?

Vowing to uncover the truth, Colt gets drawn into a secret world of aliens, shapeshifters, flying motorcycles, and invisible gateways.

The Invasion has begun.

My take:  Imagine if you found out that all the creatures of myth like Bigfoot were real and that they were really creatures from other worlds.  Imagine if you found out that there was a plot to take over the world and wipe humans off the face of the earth.  Imagine if everything in one of your favorite comics really were true.

This is what Colt learns after his parents are killed in a car accident.  He must move to Arizona with his grandfather, who isn't at all as he seems.  Colt meets  Oz  and has a vague sense that he remembers him from somewhere.  Dani, a long time friend, helps Colt make the transition to a new school.

Then Colt finds out that his parents accident may not have been an accident and the only thing that may be standing between the aliens and a takeover is HIM.  Alot to take in for a 16 year old.

I thought that this was a great book that reminded me abit of I am Number Four but so much better on alot of levels.  I liked the fact that the story was told without cursing.  A good story period that didn't have to rely on cursing or gratuitous violence.  Yes there are chases and fights , this is a story of alien invasion after all, but no graphic details.

I think that boys especially will like this new series.  But girls should like it too.  I look forward to the next one but we have to what till 2012.
