Book Spotlight of Too Far Down by Mary Connealy

Too Far Down (The Cimarron Legacy, #3)

Cowboys, Action, Humor, and History Collide in Connealy's Latest
When an explosion kills men and damages the CR Mining Company, the Bodens realize their troubles are not behind them as they thought. Shadowy forces are still working against them.
Cole Boden finds himself caught between missing his time back East and all that New Mexico offers. Sure he fights with his siblings now and then, but he does care for them. He enjoys running the mine and, when he's honest, he admits that Melanie Blake captures his interest in a way no other woman ever has.
Melanie has been a friend to the Bodens forever. A cowgirl who is more comfortable with horses and lassoes than people, she never expected to find herself falling for someone. Particularly for refined Cole Boden, a Harvard graduate who may not stay long at the ranch. She's determined, however, to help the Bodens finally put an end to the danger that's threatened all of them. But will putting herself in harm's way be more dangerous than anyone expected?

Tried and true by Mary Connealy

About the book: Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!
Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister---and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It's a risk---they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as "boys"---but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.
Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

My Take:  Another Wilde Ride out west with Mary Connealy.  This is an excellent start to a new series.  It is a tale that helps us remember that it really wasn't that long ago that women didn't have as many rights as they do today. This book has plenty of humor and will have you laughing out loud throughout the book.  This book has me anxious for the next book in the series and eagerly awaiting it's release to see where this series is going.

A Match Made in Texas by Karen Witemeyer, Mary Connealy, Regina Jennings, Carol Cox

A Match Made in Texas

A Match made in Texas by Karen Witemeyer, Mary Connealy, Regina Jennings, and Carol Cox

Fom Goodreads.com

In the small town of Dry Gulch, Texas, a good-hearted busybody just can't keep herself from surreptitiously trying to match up women in dire straits with men of good character she hopes can help them. How is she to know she's also giving each couple a little nudge toward love?

A Cowboy Unmatched
Neill isn't sure who hired him to repair Clara's roof--he only knows Clara desperately needs his help. Can he convince this stubborn widow to let down her guard and take another chance on love?

An Unforeseen Match
Hoping to earn an honest wage on his way to the land rush, Clayton ends up on Grace's doorstep, lured by a classified ad. He may have signed on for more than he expected though--and he may have found the one woman who can keep him from moving on.

No Match for Love
Andrew can't fathom how refined Lucy ended up as the caretaker to his dotty aunt, and somehow her arrival has prompted even more bizarre occurrences around the ranch. When they join forces to unearth the truth, will the attraction between Andrew and Lucy develop into more?

Meeting Her Match
When the tables are turned and a tenderhearted meddler becomes the beneficiary of a matchmaking scheme, her world is turned upside down. As her entire life changes, will she finally be able to tell the banker's son how much she cares for him?

My Take: This is a set of four novellas written by the four authors listed.  I have read and enjoyed each of these authors except for Carol Cox but after reading her novella I think I will be checking out other things she has written.  These Four stories are all set in Dry Gulch Texas and they each involve a story of  matchmaking except the last one when the matchmaker gets her own match.  These stories are just the right length to read when you just want to read a quick story.  Well worth the time.  Nice clean romance.

Fired Up by Mary Connealy

Book Info
About the book: Rollicking Wild West Adventure and Romance from Bestselling Author Mary Connealy

Dare Riker is a doctor who saves lives, but someone seems determined to end his. It may have something to do with the traitors he dealt with during the Civil War, or it might be related to the recent incident with Flint Greer and the ranch. Whoever the culprit is, he or she seems really fired up, and Dare can't let his guard down for a moment, which is a challenge, since right now he's trying to win the heart of the recently widowed Glynna.

Glynna Greer came west as a mail-order bride and ended up in a bad situation. Now her husband, Flint, is dead, and she's determined to care for her son and daughter on her own. She wants to believe Dare Riker is as decent as he seems, but she's terrified to lock herself into another marriage. She plans to support her small family by opening a diner---never mind that cooking is not her greatest talent. The men in Broken Wheel, Texas, are so desperate for home cooking that they seem willing to overlook dried-out beef and blackened biscuits.

Glynna can't help but notice that danger follows Dare wherever he goes. There's the avalanche. And then the fire. But things really get out of hand when someone plunges a knife from Glynna's diner into Dare's back. Are Flint's cronies still plotting revenge? Is Glynna's son engaged in a misguided attempt to protect his mother? Is a shadowy outsider still enraged over past injustices? And can Dare survive long enough to convince Glynna to take another chance on love?

My Take:  This is another great book by Mary Connealy.  She consistently produces books with a good story line mixed with excitement along with a good dose of a sense of humor.  This book was no exception.  It was interesting to see how this book progressed and how Glynna and Dare interact with each other.  You will want to read the first book in this series just because you will want to read more about these characters.

A Bride For All Seasons by Margaret Brownley, Debra Clopton, Robin Lee Hatcher and Mary Connealy

A Bride for All SeasonsMore about A Bride For All Seasons:

It All Started with an Ad in a Mail Order Bride Catalogue . . .

Melvin Hitchcock of the Hitching Post Mail Order Bride Catalog isn't dishonest---not exactly. If he tweaks his clients' applications a bit, it's because he's looking out for their best interests.
This charming bouquet of novellas introduces four Hitching Post prospects in the year 1870, each one eager for second chances . . . and hungry for happiness. Year in, year out, they'll learn that love often comes in unexpected packages.
And Then Came Spring by Margaret Brownley
Mary-Jo has been unlucky all her life. But who would guess she'd travel halfway across the country to meet her match . . . only to find him dead!
An Ever-After Summer by Debra Clopton
Ellie had no idea she's not what Matthew ordered. And what's wrong with being a "Bible thumper" anyway? She's determined to show him she's tougher than she looks---and just the girl he needs.
Autumn's Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher
Luvena would be perfect for Clay if she didn't come with kids. But kids are a deal breaker, especially in a rough-and-trouble mining town. The trouble is, there's no money to send them back. . .
Winter Wedding Bells by Mary Connealy
David's convinced he's not long for the world. He needs someone to mother his boys when he's gone---nothing more. Can plucky Irish Megan convince him to work at living instead of dying?

My Take:  What a great start to a new series.  I have been really enjoying books about historical Texas and this book is no exception.  This book is set a few years after the Civil War and the main character Luke is headed home to reclaim his rightful claim to his ranch which his father had sent him the deed for.  Unfortaunately an evil man has killed his father and laid claim to the land and is not so willing to give up what he has claimed.  On the way to get the land Luke finds a  girl who was swept away from her traveling party.  He names her Rosie because of her hair but her name is Ruthie.  Will Luke get his land back?  Will he and Ruthie come together and realize that they love each other?  There are some other questions that need answers in this book but you will need to read it to find out.

If you like historical fiction especially the time period after the Civil War then you will like this book.  I would also recommend it if you just want to read a good story with high entertainment value.

Over The Edge by Mary Connealy

Over the Edge
Over The Edge by Mary Connealy

About the Book:

Seth Kincaid survived a fire in a cave, but he's never been the same. He was always a reckless youth, but now he's gone over the edge. He ran off to the Civil War and came back crazier than ever.

After the war, nearly dead from his injuries, it appears Seth got married. Oh, he's got a lot of excuses, but his wife isn't happy to find out Seth doesn't remember her. Callie has searched, prayed, and worried. Now she's come to the Kincaid family's ranch in Colorado to find her lost husband.

Callie isn't a long-suffering woman. Once she knows her husband is alive, she wants to kill him. She's not even close to forgiving him for abandoning her.

Then more trouble shows up in the form of a secret Seth's pa kept for years. The Kincaid brothers might lose their ranch if they can't sort things out. It's enough to drive a man insane--but somehow it's all making Seth see things more clearly. And now that he knows what he wants, no one better stand in his way.

My Take:  I have done several book Spotlights of books by Mary Connealy but I have never gotten around to reading her books until now.  I really liked this book and will be going back to read the others in this series.  I found the characters engaging and I really liked being drawn into the story of what was happening to them in their lives.   I enjoyed the small bits of comedy sprinkled through out the story.  I liked the story of Seth and Callie and felt for both of them in their own way.  I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance books set in the West.
