Prayer Warrior Mom: Covering Your KIds with God's Blessing's and Protection by Marla Alupoaicei

Prayer Warrior Mom : Covering Your Kids with God's Blessing's and Protection by Marla Alupoaicei

From Thomas Nelson

Book Description

Moms, are you struggling with patience? Worrying about your children’s spiritual development? Concerned about their social or behavioral issues? Wondering how to get it all done when there’s just never enough time?
Author Marla Alupoaicei knows that today’s Christian moms want to be the parents God intended. They desire to pray boldly and stand in the gap for their kids. But many mothers haven’t been equipped with the prayer skills, scriptural knowledge, and practical strategies to fight the spiritual battle for themselves and their children.
Marla is no stranger to these trials. She has felt the simmering frustration and discontentment that come from the constant tension of trying to do it all for her family. But as Marla began to turn everything over to God in prayer, He granted her an attitude of gratitude, the antidote to despair. “When you and I choose to praise the Lord, He will be fully present in our hearts, in our homes, and with our children,” she says.
In Prayer Warrior Mom, Marla invites you to walk with her through fifteen life-transforming principles that will empower you to effectively intercede for your children. Learn to cultivate your own attitude of gratitude, pray Scripture, be persistent, pray with power and authority, be your children’s #1 advocate, hear God’s voice above the noise of daily life, and much more!
“The only real power we have on this earth is the power of prayer. Our potent prayers for our kids connect them with the reality of God and His will for their lives,” Marla says.
Mom, this is your year. Your year of spiritual breakthrough. Your year to see your children start loving God and living for Him. What are you waiting for? Become a Prayer Warrior Mom today!

My Take:  I have always been a big believer in praying for our children and thought I would read this book.  I am definitely not the targeted group for this book as I am an older woman with three adult children and a small granddaughter.  But there was alot in this book that I could apply to my children and granddaughter.  This is a great jumping off point to praying for your children at what ever age they are but especially young Moms.

I received a review copy of this book by Thomas Nelson in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Respect Dare for Married Women by Nina Roesner

The Respect Dare
The Respect Dare for Married Women by Nina Roesner

From Goodreads.com
40 Days to Improving Your Relationship with God and Your Husband

Ephesians 5:33 in the Bible says that wives shall always respect their husbands, but most women struggle with this concept. Are you one of them?

The truth is that women get married with dreams, hopes and aspirations that are often never fulfilled. More than half of marriages end in divorce in the United States, and many women that stay married are unhappy.
The Respect Dare is a forty-day devotional guide that will take away the mystery that is keeping you from speaking the language of respect with your husband. It provides real life examples from women who have developed closer relationships with God and their husbands. In it, you will learn:
● How to build confidence;

● Methods to positively handle conflicts;

● Keys to better communication;

● How to develop a more intimate connection with your spouse;

● Ways to deepen your relationship with God;

● And much more!
Learn the language of respect and truly connect to the man you married with The Respect Dare.

My Take:  I have been married for 28 years and my husband and I have had our ups and downs.  The premise of this book is a good one.  My one concern though is that if a newly married or soon to be married woman gets this book and thinks if they do everything in this book and they are still having problems in their relationship they will think that it is all their fault because after all they did everything in the book.  What this book doesn't really cover is that it takes two for a relationship and if you are working hard on your marriage but your husband isn't or vice versa the relationship will suffer not matter if you are following the advice of this book or not.

We are to respect our husbands and this book helped give me some new ideas of how I could show that respect.  I would use this book as just that an idea book to use as a springboard.  Don't use it as a how to book.

I received an ebook review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion from Booksneeze review program.

AYear with Jesus by R. P. Nettlehorst

from the Publisher

Too many times the impact and grandness of the actual words Jesus spoke, as recorded in the Bible, are lost in the telling of the story. In A Year with Jesus, the primary focus is to allow the scriptures that contain Jesus' dialogue to uniquely speak to the reader. The author follows each reading with insights and applications to help explain the context and nuances of the text. The unique titling of each meditation and the nontraditional themes and organization help bring Jesus to our daily lives. Topics include:
Love and Hate
Truths and Lies
Arrogance and Humility
Friends and Enemies
Belief and Disbelief
Patience and Impatience
Deserved and Undeserved
Good and Evil
Fidelity and Treachery
Life and Death

My Take:  I am always looking for a new devotional book that will help deepen my quiet time and help with my understanding of the Bible.  This devotional fits that bill.  Each day is started with a portion of scripture that has something to do with Jesus teaching.  Then the second half of the devotional is the authors thoughts on that portion of scripture.  I like the way the book is set up and the fact that the daily readings do not have specific dates attached to them so you don't have to fell like you are playing catch up if you miss a day or two and you can just start where you are.  This devotional takes the subjects listed above and address what Jesus has to say about each subject , taken straight from scripture.
I have enjoyed my journey with Jesus so far this year and will more than likely be continuing this journey for many years to come.

I received a review copy of this book through the BookSneeze program and was not required to write a positive review.

Waking Hours - Lis Wiehl BookSneeze review

Waking Hours by Lis Wiehl

Book Description from Publisher's site

Welcome to East Salem: A deceptively sleepy town where ancient supernatural forces are being awakened.
A high-school girl is found murdered in a park in Westchester County, New York. The shocking manner of her death confounds the town and intrigues forensic psychiatrist Dani Harris, who is determined to unravel the mystery. All the suspects are teenagers who were at a party with the girl—yet no one remembers what happened. Could one of them be a vicious killer? Or is something more sinister afoot—something tied to an ancient evil?
But it's not just Dani’s waking hours that challenge her. Each night, her eyes open at 2:13 due to troubling dreams—dreams filled with blood, water, and destruction. Is it a clue—or a sign?
Across town, former NFL linebacker Tommy Gunderson finds his security system has been breached by an elderly woman who attacks him with preternatural strength. Before he can process the attack, someone close to him is implicated in the high-school girl's murder. He agrees to help—and finds himself working with Dani, the only girl who could resist his charms when they were in high school.
It will take astute analysis and forensic skills to solve the crime. But Dani and Tommy suspect there's more to the mystery than murder, more to their growing friendship than chance . . . and more to the evil they're facing than a mere human killer.

My Take:
If you like your books exciting and keeping you on your edge of your seat, this is the series for you to start.  I have liked Lis Wiehl's other series Triple Threat and I was excited about reading this first installment of this new series and I was not disappointed.  The book starts out with an elderly woman being found at the home of Tommy Gunderson and she ends up attacking him with strenth that is much more than she should be able to muster.  Later that night a girl is found murdered but even though there are many witnesses know remembers.  The rest of the book is a mystery with alot of twist and turns , enough to keep you turning the pages  till the very end.   I love thrillers and this is a THRILLER of the highest kind.  Great book!!!!

The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World by Susan Veness

The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World - Special eBook Edition
The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World by Susan Veness

I love anything Disney.  Our family has been to Disney World twice and would love to go again.  If I was given my choice of vacation spots it would be Disney world.  so when I was given the chance to review this book I jumped on it.

This book is a treasure trove of information.  It takes each park and gives you things to look for that are usually overlooked by the average park goer.  Sprinkled throughout the book are interesting facts about that park or a Disney ride or character.  Also throughout the book are tidbits about what the Imagineers were thinking when they created the rides and parks.  At the end of the chapters of the parks is a timeline that gives you the timeline of the evolution of that particular park.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip to Disney World or even if you are a Disney lover. This book is jammed packed with information that will keep you saying "I didn't know that"

I received this book as a part of the Booksneeze program of Thomas Nelson.

What the Heart Sees by Kathleen Fuller

What the Heart Sees: A Collection of Amish Romances What the Heart Sees by Kathleen Fuller

From Goodreads.com:

Together for the first time, three Amish romances from Kathleen Fuller.

"A Miracle for Miriam" from An Amish Christmas

Miriam fell for Seth, but he broke her heart. Years later, after he's nearly killed in an accident, Miriam sees him at a Christmas party and notices something is different about him-not just how he looks, but how he acts. When Seth pursues her, she must decide whether to guard her heart or accept his love.

"A Place of His Own" from An Amish Gathering

When Josiah left Paradise the first time, he didn't even say good-bye. Now he's back, ten years later, and he's changed. Why is he so distant and bitter? Where is the boy who used to be Amanda's best friend? Amanda is learning that there are things even a capable Amish girl can't fix. But can she stand there and watch him walk away...again?

"What the Heart Sees" from An Amish Love

A tragic accident rocks a peaceful Amish community, leaving Ellie Chupp blinded and Christopher Bender's future shattered. But they find love and forgiveness in a place they least expect.

My Take:

This book is really Three novellas.  Each one has a tragedy that occurs and effects several of the Amish in the story.

My favorite one of the novellas was the first one in the book, A Miracle for Miriam.  Miriam had a crush on Seth when they were in school but he crushed her heart when he found out about it.  Fast forward several years.  Miriam is not inclined to let herself be vulnerable again.  But Seth has come back into the picture and he has had some dramatic changes.  Will she let herself have those feelings again?

This book is perfect for  any one who likes Amish Fiction.  Each story is long enough that they could be easily read in a few hours.  Good stories and characters.

Where Hearts are Free by Golden Keyes Parsons

Where Hearts Are Free (A Darkness to Light Novel) Where Hearts are Free by Golden Keyes Parsons

From Amazon.com
Bridget is in love with one man...and promised to another.

Amid the liberty and promise of the New World, Bridget Barrington and Phillipe Clavell fall in love. But nothing about their love seems possible.

To pay for the Clavell family's passage from France, Philippe, a former member of French royalty, worked as an indentured slave to the Barringtons. Bridget is the heiress of the prominent plantation.

When Bridget's parents discover the budding Romance between their daughter and their servant, they quickly orchestrate her engagement to an older, more advantageous match. But Edward Moorehead has a secret. And he's anything but a good match for Bridget.

Separated from her true love and in danger from her betrothed, Bridget must rely on God to deliver her from darkness into light.

Gold Keyes Parsons is an author as well as a popular conference and retreat leader. Her first series is the highly acclaimed Darkness to Light trilogy. She and her family live in Texas.

My Take:
This is the Third in a series but you don't need to read the first two to enjoy this book.  I have already bought the first book in the series though just because this book got me curious about what happened before.

First off I just love the author's name.  And then the cover for this book is just wonderful.

Bridget has basically grown up with Philippe.  She has told him of her deepest fears and told him her secrets, including one of witnessing a murder on her parents land.  She has grown to love him.  Although Phillipe is of noble blood, in this country he is just a servant so Bridget's parents are against the match.

Bridget confesses her love to Phillipe but because he is honarable he denies his true feelings for her and she is left now other recourse than to become engaged and marry Edward Moorehead.

But something is sinister about Edward and he has alot of questionable business dealings going on.

This book kept my interest and had me holding my breath with anticipation of what was going to happen next.  A word of caution hear there are some unsavory things that happen in the book and although the author does not go into to much detail they are still there so I would not recommend this book for a a girl until she was a mature teenager.

An excellent book and I cannot wait till I read the first two book. If you like historical fiction I would highly recommend this book.

I received this book as part of the Book Sneeze Program by Thomas Nelson.  (I must confess to not reading this in a timely manner having had it for several months.)

Never Let You Go by Erin Healy

If you are a Ted Dekker fan maybe you have read the books that Erin Healy co wrote with him (Kiss and Burn).  I read Kiss and liked it so I thought when this book was offered through Booksneeze that I would give it a try.

From Amazon:  Losing everything has Lexi clinging to her daughter. Hell is determined to loosen her grip.

It's been seven years since disaster struck her family. Lexi Solomon has held it all together since then--just barely.

But now Lexi is losing it. The husband who deserted her is back in town, wanting to see their daughter Molly. Her sister's shameless murderer is up for parole. An unsavory old friend is demanding payment for debts that Lexi knows nothing about and can't begin to meet.

And something else is going on--something Lexi feels but can't explain. A dangerous shift is taking place between this reality and the next. Forces beyond her imagination are vying for control.

A rare novel that will satisfy a wide range of readers, Never Let You Go explores the high-stakes decisions played out in the thin spaces between heaven and earth. As the enemy's grip tightens around Lexi, she will have to decide what's truly worth holding on to.

"Keeps you glued to the pages until the very last."--Tosca Lee, author of Havak: The Story of Eve

My Opinion:  I really liked this book.  It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what more could happen to this girl.  Seems like everyone who had caused her some kind of trauma showed back up in her life all with the matter of HOURS.  Poor girl didn't even have a break.  Then weird things started happening that made her question her mental state.  Erin Healy has not problem being able to hold her own with this novel.  There are plenty of twists and turns to keep any reader on their toes and wondering what more could happen.  Great book!!

Chronological Guide to the Bible

Chronological Guide to the Bible is just what the title suggests, a chronological guide.  If you are interested in reading the Bible chronologically this is a good place to start.  It is a good jumping off point and if you just want general information.
This guide divides the Bible up into 9 epochs.  Within each epoch it gives a general overview that includes archeology, the peoples and groups and Biblical literature.  It also gives you a reading guide with those little boxes that you can check off if you so wish.  There is a brief overview of each of the books of the Bible and then a brief description of the major events that happen in that book.
I think that this is the perfect book for you if you (like myself) have never read the Bible in chronological order and if you are also interested in a little bit of history and commentary along with it.  The sections are just enough to wet your appetite and if you would like to explore further it is a good place to know where to start.
The guide is colorful and has pictures throughout that depicts that particular part of the Bible.
I reviewed this book as part of Booksneeze, the blogger reviewer program of Thomas Nelson.  I received no payment for this review.
